The track of Torres' voyage clearly shows him traversing what is now known as Torres Strait, although Dalrymple does not provide any information to support this assertion in this book. The evidence had come from his study of original documents and charts by Torres taken by the British from the Spanish archives after their capture of Manila in 1762. James Cook was aware of this information before he sailed on the Endeavour. aC & C 3083.0 aPart 1. 1. Geographical description of places -- 2.
