David Hall, a linguist was born in Yorkshire (England), came to Australia in the early 1990s; his current position is with the Dept. of English, Media and Linguistics, Macquarie University (N.S.W.). Hall recalls going to Paris in 1968 for one year as part of his Birmingham University course; teaching English at French private schools; returning to Birmingham as a teacher in 1969; working for Voluntary Service Overseas in Rwanda, in Iran for the British Council; returning to the UK in the mid 1970s to do further studies; 1980 the Materials Development Project at the University of Malaysia; teaching in Thailand at the Institute set up by SEATO; being appointed Senior Lecturer in Linguistics, National Centre for English Language Teaching & Research during the early 1990s; teaching language in Australia under the AMES program.
