The interview covers North's working background in writing & journalism in England, starting in 1962; his migration to Australia in 1965, citing the flora of Australia as a big attraction; the foundation of the Society in 1980 & that first period of it's rapid growth, membership rising from an initial 300 to 2,750 by 1988; North's involvement with the Society, initially as a member and then in the period for 6 years (1982-1988) when he served as honorary secretary; the history of the newsletter Garden Cuttings which was later revamped into a full blown magazine & renamed the Australian Garden Journal, publications North & his wife Keva produced and which became the official journal of the Australian Garden History Society (1983-1989), a number of pages per issue being dedicated to the Society's administrative functions and related articles.
