Polish-born Professor Zubrzycki, AO, CBE, became the founding Professor of Sociology at the Australian National University in 1970, and emeritus professor in 1994. Zubrzycki settled in Australia in 1956 and had a long and distinguished career. Zubrzycki was also a visiting fellow at universities around the world, and in 1994 Pope John Paul II made him a foundation member of the Pontifical Academy of the Social Sciences. Zubrzycki wrote extensively on immigration and served on government councils and inquiries into Australian immigration and multicultural policies.
