He describes his travels in the West Indies, discusses news of his children's progress at school, speaks of a man named Hoggart, of Colonel Kitchener, of the American United Fruit Co., and of his work on a novel published in London by Unwin the following year under the title Helen Adair.

George Lewis Becke, better known as Louis Becke, was a short-story writer and novelist prominent in the 1890s. He was a frequent traveller to the South Pacific islands, and his experiences are reflected in his many works.
