Justice Lyn Furnell, retired New South Wales District Court Judge, and Royal Commissioner into Aboriginal Affairs in Western Australia, speaks about his family background; his childhood in Bangalow, N.S.W.; his schooling in Bangalow and Lismore; attending the University of Sydney and Teachers College; teaching in a number of schools, including Sydney Church of England Grammar School; qualifying as a Barrister in 1933; his time as a Judge on the District Court, including on the northern circuit; his views on sentencing; his retirement in 1973; Royal Commission into Aboriginal affairs in Western Australia, and the resulting report; and Aboriginal land rights.
