Summary

White recalls early memories of her father, former Prime Minister Alfred Deakin and her immediate family; recollections by her father; her mother's family the Brownes, prominent members of Melbourne society at the turn of the 20th century; family trips to London and Europe during 1900-1914, meeting Sir George Reid and other politicians; World War I and her work in Cairo and London at the time; going to Berlin 1913-14, San Francisco 1915, Cairo 1915 and London 1918. White recalls the end of WWI; Armistice Day; meeting returned prisoners; the return to Australia; the Red Cross in WW2.
