Hannaford, a furniture shop owner, speaks of his grandfather who had a store at Dangar Village near Narrabri along with a hawker's van, how he took up land in 1898 with two partners about six miles from Walgett, how he eventually bought them out in the 1902 drought and increased the size of the land before he died in 1907, how his father carried on the business before dying in 1942 resulting in the property eventually being divided, how his own portion of the land by inheritance was too small to support a living so he bought a store, his views on wool firms acting as money-lending institutions profiting both ways, how the furniture business is mostly patronised by town dwellers with the country folk buying by catalogue from the big cities, how the change from grazing to wheat caught out many with the initial outlay, transport and its costs in the country areas, problems of attending schools, his memory of the Depression years.
