Butler, a conservationist, talks about his background and childhood in some detail with particular emphasis on the development of his skills and interest in natural history. He talks about his teaching practice and philosophy and the touring environmental educational show he ran for some years. Major surveys conducted in WA and North America are discussed, with detailed descriptions of tracking techniques and natural history practices. The making of the TV series "In the Wild", the film "Walkabout" and other films are also discussed. Butler talks about the various awards he has received; the role of various organisation on which he has served and his contributions to the WA Museum and the Harry Butler Scholarship as well as his work as a consultant or "synthesist".
