Summary

Research material on the life and work of Walter Burley Griffin and his wife Marion Mahony Griffin. Includes research notes, correspondence, bibliographies, publications, copies of journal articles and theses, photographs of people and buildings, architectural plans, drawings, and microfilms. Also includes various versions of Marion Mahony Griffin's unpublished autobiographical work 'The Magic of America'.

Biography/History

Donald Leslie Johnson born 1930, Bremerton, Washington. Professional architectural practice since 1958 in America and Australia. B. Architecture, Washington University, 1957; licensed architect in Washington State, 1958-2010; Master’s class with Louis I. Kahn and M. Architecture, 1960, at Pennsylvania University; M. Arch. ad eumdum gradem, Adelaide University, 1967. From 1972-1988 taught design, architectural design, theory and history and art history at various universities including Arizona University, Adelaide University, Washington State University and Flinders University; Adjunct Professor of Architectural History, South Australia University since 1995. Honorary Fellow, Royal Australian Institute of Architects; corporate member, American Institute of Architects. Author of numerous books, articles and reviews relating to architecture, planning and design.
