-
There are 3 letters. The earliest, dated 3.6.1844 is addressed by Leichhardt to "Isaacs Esq., Darling Downs, Moreton Bay". (The correct name of the addressee was Frederick Neville Isaac, a squatter). The letter proposes to send botanical specimens from Sydney and Moreton Bay to England. The second, dated 18.9.1847 is from Phillip Parker King (Australia's first Rear-Admiral). It speaks of a member of the Condamine River expedition some weeks earlier, Henry Turnbull, spreading prejudicial stories about Leichhardt's leadership; and demonstrates the course of the Victoria River, N.T. The third letter, dated 10.10.1847, is from Leichhardt to Isaacs and discusses aspects of the recent expedition; Turnbull's behaviour; and the hospitality of his friends in Brisbane.
