Sir James Hardy, winemaker and yachtsman, speaks about his family background, including his great grandfather, Thomas Hardy, founder of the family vineyard and winery; progress of Hardy's since establishment; phylloxera; effect of his father's death in 1938; his schooling; building and sailing his own boats since 1943; his progress in Hardy's since joining the company in 1953; his wife and family; his success sailing in the Flying Dutchman and 505 dinghy classes; skippering three America's Cup challenges, 1970, 1974 and 1980; and working as director of the successful America's Cup challenge in 1983.
