Hauser, a botanical illustrator, was born in Brisbane and lived on the Gold Coast in the 1970s. She speaks of starting to paint again in the early 1970s, taking a job as a botanical iIllustrator with the Queensland Lands Dept. For several years she was busy painting illustrations of weeds for a series of full colour posters on the major weeds in Queensland. This led to the Queensland Forestry Dept. employing her to produce illustrations for 2 guidebooks on different forest habitats found in the Brisbane Forest Park and doing illustrations of rainforest plants for tourist brochures.
Hauser went on to publish in 1992 a field guide on every single species of rainforest plant growing in the greater Brisbane region. Through her artwork she felt she could make a contribution to the conservation movement by showing people what would disappear from the environment if measures weren't put in place to halt further destruction of the forests and bushlands. Her expertise were sought by the Defence Dept. to do detailed botanical surveys; by Landcare for seed collecting, propagating and planting, revegetation projects.
