| Summary |
Breckwoldt, environmental consultant and author, speaks of his role as spokesman for the Tantawangalo Catchment Protection Association which campaigned to protect the Tantawangalo Creek in the south east forests of New South Wales (NSW) from logging; speaks of his early career starting in 1968 with the NSW Dept. of Agriculture as a Beef Cattle Officer, then held various positions in the environment field before moving to his property in the Tantawangalo Valley, NSW; how in late 1981 he and his wife, Anne started campaigning against logging in old growth forests; how badly the protesters were treated when campaigning in the forests; the timber industry, Forest Commission and the media in their efforts to halt the conservation campaign; speaks of various meetings held at places such as Candelo and Wolumla; the arguments for and against why the old growth forests should be protected; the need to expose the hypocrisy of the Forest Commission.
Breckwoldt speaks about his wife finding evidence of koalas habitating in Devil's Creek (Tantawangalo Valley); the work done by the Tantawangalo Catchment Protection Association to verify the findings, leading onto the Forestry Commission doing further koala research; further campaigns in 1989 against "trial logging "aimed at drawing the public's attention to the issue; celebrating the 1996 Carr Government's decision to protect Tantawangalo as part of a greatly expanded network of south east forests national parks; of his long term concerns for the future and the milestones achieved by the Conservation Movement.
