Summary

Papers relating to Markham's years in the Solomon Islands. These include correspondence, including the draft of a letter by Markham which contains biographical details, newspaper articles and a copy of the booklet by R. C. Laycock, "Pearls of the South Seas : the ... Solomon Islands". The correspondence includes a series of letters to Lily Mulvey (Markham's daughter) from her husband, Lieutenant P. H. Mulvey (9 Feb. 1943 - 10 July 1943), and two letters from Markham to his daughter in 1946, after the death of her husband. Other correspondence includes a letter from the United States Navy rejecting Markham's request for compensation for the damage to his plantation.

Biography/History

Markham was a coconut plantation owner for more than 35 years at Segi in Marovo Lagoon, New Georgia, British Solomon Islands. His plantation and house were destroyed in the second World War.
