Dame Enid Muriel Lyons, 1897-1981; politician; first female member of the House of Representatives in Commonwealth Parliament, 1943-1951; Member for Darwin, Tas. in Federal Parliament, 1943-1951; Vice President of the Executive Council, 1949-1951; member of the Australian Broadcasting Commission, 1951-1952; created a Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire in 1937; wife of J.A. Lyons, Prime Minister between 1932 and 1939.
