The Coat-of-Arms was thought out by Mary Gilmore's father, and his kinsman Mr Ogilvie of Yugilbar in about the year 1870-71. It was made as the breast-plate of "Bobby, Chief of the Yugilbar Tribe". Breastplates were given as protection by squatters to the Aboriginal people working for them. Her father cut the model from which the copper breast plate was to be copied. Dame Mary Gilmore presented the breast plate to the National Library.
