Photographs taken on Groom's trips in Northwest and Central Australia recording station life, cattle industry and Aboriginal life, 1940s-1950s. Photographs of Central Australia, 1946-1947 for 'I saw a strange land' and of Northern Territory and Western Australia, 1951-1952, for 'Wealth in the Wilderness' (working title 'This is our country'). Also includes photographs relating to the establishment of Binna Burra Lodge and the development of national parks in Queensland.
- Biography/History:

Arthur Groom 1904-1953, son of Arthur Champion Groom, member for Flinders in first Federal Parliament; raised on cattle station Rosabelle Downs, Queensland; worked as a jackeroo and journalist; became the first honorary secretary of the National Parks Association of Queensland in 1930; was active in the promotion of national parks and environmental protection; established, with Romeo Lahey, Binna Burra Lodge on the edge of the Lamington National Park, southeast Queensland, 1933; wrote Merry Christmas (1932), I saw a strange land (1950), One mountain after another (1949) and Wealth in the wilderness (1955).
