|aSummers accompanied the 1954 Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition to Mawson as Medical Officer, spending about 13 months in the Antarctic. He accompanied Robert Dovers on his exploratory journey to a point 69 degrees 40' south and went on other, shorter field trips. While in the Antarctic he also conducted physiological and biological research. He was awarded the Polar Medal by the Governor-General on 24 January 1956. |
