1. Knight speaks of his childhood and his parents as dairy farmers, his school days. 2. Recitation: Unidentified ditty (to the tune of Yankee Doodle). 3. Knight discusses recreations such as bush dances and parties, describe the game "Dan, the Dirty Old Man", playing marbles at school, how kids would sell brushes during the Depression years, how he went without shoes and the need for 'hand me down' clothes, the various jobs his father had to take, more recreations like Saturday night dances, tennis, barbecues, singing and dancing, how he learnt to play the mouth organ and some of the tunes he played, how he learnt the steel guitar, describes the Bennett Brothers who played at local dances, how his mother played the organ, the Gunnedah Mouth Organ Band. 4. Music: Whistling Rufus (fragment). 5. Knight speaks of hillbilly music, background to the tune Lackadaisy Melody. 6. Song: Lackadaisy melody. 7. Knight gives background to the tune Babes in the Wood. 8. Song: Babes in the Wood. 9. Knight discusses how he added words while playing at dances, how he came to work and live with the natives of Papua New Guinea ANGAU (Australian New Guinea Administration Unit) during World War II, his duties, how the natives enjoyed music and how they made drums. 10. Song: Unidentified (repeated). 11. Song: 40 Mile (plus an explanation). 12. Knight explains how he learnt songs in the Motau language, how the songs formed part of a propaganda program. 12.
