Summary

The collection comprises a small amount of personal correspondence, notebooks and press clippings, three folders of commercial advertising brochures relating to house construction, information on new housing developments in several areas of N.S.W. & the A.C.T., reports & surveys, research notes, plans of Canberra from the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette, and papers from the project, 'South Tuggeranong Historical & Museum Potential'. The collection also contains many photographs of housing and other developments maps and architectural sketches. Publications contained within the collection include a thesis on land use, reviews, reports, and The State Planning Authority Act No. 59, 1963.

Biography/History Oskars Pumpurs, town planner and architect, died in 1992, aged 72. Pumpurs was a practising advocate of ecologically sustainable development long before most people had heard of it and an early exponent of neighbourhood planning. He worked for the National Capital Development Commission and its predecessor, the Department of Town Planning of the Department of the Interior, during the period of Canberra's most prolific development from the 1950's to 1982.
