|aAuthor and Presbyterian minister. Archibald Wesley Grant was born in New Zealand on 5 February 1911. As a clergyman, he held various positions with the Australian Inland Mission in the Northern Territory and New South Wales. He became an A.I.F. chaplain, serving in the Northern Territory, New Guinea and Borneo between 1941 and 1946. He was also a minister at the John Flynn Memorial Church in Alice Springs, 1956-1960, and an executive member of the Australian Council of Churches, 1966-1967. In 1977, Grant received a British Empire Medal (Civil) for service to the community. As an author, he wrote four books, Camel train & aeroplane: the story of Skipper Partridge (1981), Palmerston to Darwin: 75 years service on the frontier (1990), Australia's frontline matron, Edith McQuade White (1991), and, Aliens in Arnhem Land (1995). Grant died in Sydney in 2005. |
