Jack Rooklyn, international maxi yachtsman and businessman was born in England in 1908. He speaks about his Russian parents, both tailors who emigrated firstly to England, then on to Australia in 1911; his early years; leaving school at 14 years of age (1925); his first purchase of a pin ball machine in 1933-1934. Rooklyn recalls this was his start in the coin machine industry; his already established competitor, the Bally Poker Machine Co.; amusement parlours during World War II; his business association with Butlin Holiday Camps (England); clubs business in Australia during the 1950's and 1960s; his interest in yachting and international yacht racing; yacht racing in Australia and overseas from the 1950s onwards; the development of the maxi class yachts, spinnakers and the world maxi series international yacht races.
