- Biography/History:

Sir Edward Burnett Tylor (1832-1917) was a noted anthropologist and keeper of the University Museum Oxford. He became reader in anthropology, 1896-1909, whereby he was instrumental in securing a place for anthropology among the acknowledged sciences. He wrote "Primitive culture", (London, 1871) and "Anthropology: an introduction", (London, 1881).
