Moir speaks of his family background and childhood in Dunedin, N.Z., home influences on his life, his primary school years when he developed an early interest in drawing, his secondary school years when he became interested in political subjects and cartooning, his decision at age 12 to become a political cartoonist, cartooning and political influences, how he went on to Elam Art School in Auckland, how he had to undertake labouring jobs in N.Z., on moving to Australia and having to take factory work in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, his development in drawing technique, how he mixed part-time work with drawing for the Bulletin and working part-time in a factory, how he eventually was able to freelance for Nation Review and Canberra Times, his membership of the Labor Party, how he eventually became daily editorial cartoonist for Brisbane's Courier Mail from 1979-1984, his stand on the issue of self-censorship, how he moved to the Sydney Morning Herald from 1984, the various influences on his cartooning style, his other artistic pursuits, his four children born between 1975 and 1984, his travels in the United States, Europe and Asia, his views on overseas cartoonists such as Oliphant in the U.S. and Nicholas Garland in Britain, why Australian political cartooning has a dynamic missing in other Western countries, how he looks for a contradiction on which to base his cartoon, recycling previous jokes months later, explains how he devised the accompanying cartoons.
