Aspinall joined the Queensland Police Force at the age of 19 and had postings at Cairns and Thursday Island before being promoted to sergeant in Normanton in 1963. He outlines the situation in Normanton where the role of Protector of Aborigines was undertaken by the Clerk of the Court and Aboriginal people who broke the law were sent to Palm Island. Aspinall expresses his views on alcohol abuse among Aboriginal people, the Bringing Them Home Inquiry, and the policy of removal.
