Hegarty was 4 months old when she was taken to Cherbourg Anglican Mission, Qld. with her mother and maternal grandparents. She speaks about being removed to the dormitories at the age of 4 while her mother was sent to work as a domestic on pastoral properties. Hegarty describes the living conditions in the dormitories and working as a domestic from the age of 14. She also talks about her husband, her children and grandchildren, and about her community work.
