- Summary:

Wood was separated from his mother soon after birth. He speaks about his earliest memories of the Wooloowin Orphanage in Brisbane and about the harsh treatment he was subjected to in foster homes. Later he was transferred to the Salvation Army Home, Indooroopilly, and from the age of 14, he was sent out to work. He also talks about his efforts to find his parents, his meeting with relatives from his father's side, and his inability to discover anything about his mother's life and whereabouts; something that he has found difficult to come to terms with. He also talks about the long-term effects of the abuse he was subjected to as a child.
