A social survey of why public hospital patients, mainly from the metropolitan area of Melbourne, had undergone one or more abortions. The study, conducted between March and May of 1956, focussed on four groups of patients whose opinions were gained either by interview or questionnaire. Gruber highlights financial, health, psychological and social problems as contributing to abortions. There are twenty-eight tables which tabulate the results and cover such topics as birth control, marital status, occupation and religion.
