Summary

Stock, a dancer and performing artist, speaks of her family background; ballet lessons as a child and studying at Flinders University. She discusses the Australian Dance Theatre, its dancers and choreographers and the 1970 tour of Asia. She speaks of Elizabeth Dowman, Jaap Flier; Peter Sculthorpe's 'Rites of Passage'; the Centre Internationale de la Dance in Paris; studying in New York including at the Graham School; teaching at the Australian Dance Theatre School and in Adelaide high schools. She talks about the 1976 Armidale Conference; rejoining the Australian Dance Theatre; teaching at the Australian Ballet School and the Victorian College of the Arts, Human Veins, her 1982 appointment as Rehearsal Director for One Extra Company, the 1982 Women in the Arts Festival, her role as director of 'New Steps' at the 1983 Sydney Festival; and the works 'Backtracks' and 'Suspense'. Stock also speaks about her appointment as Creative Director of the North Queensland Ballet Company; the Company's repertoire, tours and overseas contacts, her own choreography including 'Ochre dust' and 'Sun hunters'; problems for artists in regional areas; arts funding; and Australian audiences.
