Chandrabhanu discusses his family and their influence on his future directions, the diversity of his cultural background, his early dance training, how he went to the USA on an AFS scholarship, his parents' attitudes to dance, his sexuality, studying dance in India, coming to Australia to study anthropology at Monash University, performing during his student years at Monash, styles of Indian dance, starting a performing group in Australia, beginning of his teaching career, historical influences of Indian dance on European dance, role of Geoffrey Goldie in his career, history of Indian dance in Australia especially the role of Louise Lightfoot, his yearly return to India, his decision to remain in Australia, beginning his postgraduate studies, the role of dance in Malaysia in the 1970's, teaching and creating classical Malay dance in Malaysia, his return to Australia, the younger generation of dancers working in Indian styles, completing his doctorate, the beginnings of the Bharatam Dance Company, conducting education workshops, the composition of his company, some of his major works, his work on the Dance Committee of the Australia Council, his contemporary style, the nature of contemporary dance in Asia, the development of contemporary vocabulary, the idea of translation and expression, his current ideas for making works, audiences for dance, social aspects of dance and dancemaking.
