Atchison speaks of his family background and his childhood in Melbourne and Adelaide, his education at Glenelg Primary School and his scholarship to King's College, Adelaide, how he cartooned while at school for Man magazine, a WA radio journal and advertising agencies, his job as a copyboy with the Adelaide News, his studies at Adelaide University including English and psychology but later continued with freelance commercial drawing, his scholarship from the Education Dept. to the South Australia School of Art, his move with his wife to London in 1960 working for seven years with an advertising agency, how his cartoons were accepted by Punch on a weekly basis, his developing interest in political cartooning, his work accepted by other journals, Vicky as a cartooning influence, on return to Australia the Sydney Mirror provided a daily pocket cartoon for his work, later he became the political cartoonist for the Adelaide Advertiser, his developing interest in politics, influences included Searle, Francois, and Petty, the critical importance of the idea captured by the cartoon, the issue of censorship, how he sees his role as a cartoonist, how his daily stripWord for Word for the Advertiser became syndicated in Australia, US, UK and South Africa, his collections of strips published and book illustrations.
