Journey to investigate mineral resources, was roughly from Katherine to Roper River Valley then northwards to Blue Mud Bay and Caledon Bay; Many encounters with groups of Aborigines; Numerous trees marked with red and white rings, said to be connected with death of important man; Thefts by Aborigines of Caledon Bay; Fine dugout canoe, presumably Macassan, destroyed in reprisal; Then to the Goyder and Blyth Rivers, Oenpelli, and thence to Pine Creek; Subsequent rumour that party had been murdered led to reprisal raid against Caledon Bay Aborigines.
