Bartley, former miner in Broken Hill, speaks of Eight Hour Day celebrations ; experiences working in mines, miners, work and conditions, mining equipment ; his personal background and family ; his childhood ; central mine creep, experiences during 1909 lockout and strikes ; local environment ; water ; the Broken Hill community and the lifestyle when he was young ; jinkering, BHP ; sports ; his employment ; unions and his attitudes to society today. During cassettes 46 and 47 Bartley sings mining and folk songs.
