Dowse speaks of her involvement with Women's Liberation which became the feminist movement of the last two decades, how she reacted to Australian sexism when she first to Australia from Hollywood in 1958, how she married into a working class family and thought she was the only person in Australia who perceived that women here had a problem, the revelation that she was not alone when she attended an early Women's Liberation meeting in Sept. 1970 with a room full of women who felt the same, outlines some of the profound effects this involvement had on her life, how she came fulfill the role of Australia's first femocrat and the need for such a role, how revolutionary was the change of introducing women into the middle management ranks of the public service as well as women focusing on women's issues, how this affected her and the women following her as well as the men around them, outlines the achievements, highlights and political tightrope that she had to tread and the sense of secrecy and embattlement, other figures in public life she encountered in the period of 1974-1977, how feminism impacted on her life in general and particularly how it enable her to follow her calling as a writer, her speculations on why this wave of feminism failed to address the rise in economic rationalism and the consequences that will be felt by younger women, how much she feels was achieved as opposed to how much remains to be done.
