Summary

Photocopy of part of a handwritten letter, plus photocopy of complete typescript transcription of letter. This letter was written by Ellen Moger, the great-grand-mother of the donor, to her parents over a period from 28 January to 18 March 1840, describing the tragic voyage in which three of her children died -only a few of the total number of deaths during the voyage. The letter continues to describe living and working conditions in early Adelaide, the climate and abundance of insects.

Biography/History

The Moger family emigrated from London on the sailing ship Moffat on 26 August 1839 and arrived at Port Adelaide on 19 December 1839.
