Summary

In Part one of his autobiography, Tibor Binder gives an account of his life from his early years in Kosice, Czechoslovakia (which was formerly part of Hungary and later returned to it) through to his migration and subsequent life in Australia. The coverage includes: details of his family and his life in Kosice; his experiences as a prisoner of war during World War II, held by the Americans at Romilly and Mailly-le-camp in France; his migration to Australia in February 1950 and his life in Sydney upon arrival; and later his work at the Snowy Mountains Scheme. There are examples of Binder's artwork throughout the volume, as well as maps and reproductions of photographs. In Part two he gives an outline of 6 years of study in the School of Commercial Arts, in Budapest. The volume contains approx. 90 leaves of reproductions of his artwork.

Biography/History Artist. Tibor Binder was born in Kosice, Czechoslovakia, in 1923 to Hungarian parents. At the age of 15 he went to study at an arts school in Budapest. In 1944, during World War II, Binder joined the Hungarian Army artillery. The Americans captured his unit, making him a prisoner of war at Romilly and Mailly-le-camp in France. After the war, Binder attended the Academy of Creative Arts in Prague. In 1950 he migrated to Australia through the International Refugee Organisation.
