MS 6850 comprises photocopies of typescripts including, Notes from war diary January 16, 1916; play script by Alexander Turner based on the records kept by Lieutenant George Shaw titled "Russell Top"; letters to "Dear John" dated 1972 about the Shaws' visits to Turkey written by G.D. Shaw; and, an address made on ABC radio, 27 April, 1972. There are also photocopies of a newspaper article on the final days of the Gallipoli campaign dated 19 April, 1963; and, a letter to Stuart Sayers, literary editor of The Age about the book The Anzacs by Patsy Adam-Smith which was awarded The Age award for outstanding literary merit, and Sayers' letter in reply, 7 February, 1979 (1 folder).

George Duncan Shaw was one of the four machine gunners of the 28th Battalion Australian Infantry, 2nd Division, AIF during the last week of the evacuation of the Anzac SUVLA area. Shaw revisited Gallipoli in 1959, 1960 and 1975.
