Summary

Jack and Jean Horner, non-Indigenous Aboriginal activists, speak about their work with the Federal Council for the Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders from 1958 onwards. They attended all its conferences until 1978 but the topic of the Stolen Generation was never discussed in this forum. Jack speaks about first becoming aware of Aboriginal child removal in 1966 when researching his book on William Ferguson, a politician who campaigned for Aboriginal civil rights. Jack and Jean also speak about the issues of assimilation policy, reserves, reconciliation, compensation, and Aboriginal housing and family groups.
