Summary

Session 1: Gielgud talks about the reception enjoyed by the Australian Ballet's tour of the United States; identity of Australian Ballet and the concept of the company as a young company as well as discussing the ages of dancers generally. She then describes her management style; repertoire of the Australian Ballet, the changes that she has seen since 1993 and the reasons behind her application for the position of artistic director. Gielgud then discusses the innovations that she has achieved in this position. She also speaks of the occurrence of injuries suffered by dancers, in particular stress fractures. Session 2: Gielgud talks about the decision not to continue her contract as artistic director from the end of 1996. Session 3: The search for a new artistic director and the possibility and viability of a second company is discussed. Session 4: Gielgud talks about the appointment of the new artistic director.
