MS 7127 comprises the four-page letter explaining Russell Drysdale's attitude to his work, which formed the basis for an article written by H.W. Fulton for The education gazette (1 Sept. 1967). Included is a photocopy of the article labelled with a typed note explaining how Mr Fulton selected subjects for a series of articles on Australian painters (1 folder).

Painter. Born of Australian parents in Bognor Regis, Sussex, in 1912, George Russell Drysdale lived in Australia from 1923. He studied with George Bell in Melbourne in 1931 and 1939, at the Grosvenor School in London, 1938-1939, and Le Grande Chaumiere, Paris, in 1939. Drysdale held his first solo exhibition in London in 1950. He exhibited widely in Australia and overseas and his regional landscape works came to symbolize the real Australia.
He was appointed a trustee of the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 1963 and, in 1969 was knighted for service to Australian art. In 1980 he was created a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC). Drysdale died in Sydney in 1981. Drysdale's work is included in the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Queensland Art Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of South Australia, The Tate Gallery, London, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and in the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
