| Biography/History |
Arthur Herbert Affleck was born in Victoria in 1903. He gained his wings in the R.A.A.F. in 1924 and during his flying career was pilot for Qantas Airways Limited, Pacific Aerial Transport Ltd and others. He was the first pilot in the Flying Doctor Service when it started in 1928. He was Superintendent of Flying Operations in the N.S.W. region and in December 1959 was appointed Regional Director of Civil Aviation for Papua New Guinea from which position he retired in 1963. He wrote "The wandering years", an account of the development of Australian commercial aviation. He died 13/9/1966.
