Professor Barrie Rose, an Australian historian, spoke about his childhood in Chester, England; books he read as a child; school; development of his political views; studying history at University of Manchester; his interest in Marxism; his honours thesis on the Hebertists in the French Revolution; Master of Arts thesis on the enrages in the French Revolution; effect of his national service in the army; working in Liverpool Record Office and on the Victorian County Histories; teaching history at Sydney University; teaching Modern European history at University of Tasmania; his view of the French Revolution; the future of the study of Modern European history in Australia; and his achievements as teacher and researcher.
