MS 2381 comprises 11 volumes of records documenting the business affairs of merchants and wool importers, Robert Brooks and Co. in 1841-1876. The collection includes two letterbooks, two journals and two ledgers, among other records (2 boxes, 2 fol. boxes, 1 elephant folio). Further business correspondence, 1862-1890, is available on microfilm.

- Correspondence: 1862-1890. A bundle of 60 loose letters mainly from Robert Towns & Co., Sydney, regarding the cotton plantation on the Logan River, Queensland. Includes letters from R. Towns, A. Stuart, C. Lett and W.T. Walker. Also inventories, statements and a plan of the plantation. [In microfilm only].
- Letterbooks: February 1841-May 1843; July 1872-July 1876. Includes copies of letters to W.C. Wentworth, R. Campbell Jr & Co., W. Campbell & Co., R. Dacre, James Cain, R. Towns and other Australian pastoralists and businessmen regarding shipment and sale of wool and other products.
- Cash book: 1855-1859.
- Journals: January 1822-September 1828.
- Ledger: 1826-1832; ledger and index, 1840-1847.
- Acceptance books: January 1846-February 1953. Bills accepted from Australian companies and merchants.

Wool merchants. During much of the nineteenth century the London firm of Robert Brooks and Co. was one of the largest importers of Australian wool. The firm was closely associated also with Robert Towns, who was appointed in 1842 as the Sydney agent to replace Ranulph Dacre, and his endeavours to establish a cotton-growing industry in Queensland.

- Surviving records of the Company's connections with Australia were microfilmed as part of the Miscellaneous series of the Australian Joint Copying Project. When the firm closed down in 1969 the National Library purchased the original documents except a number which had disappeared in the interval. The microfilm provides, therefore, the more complete copy.
