Berkes recalls the differences between pre- and post- 1989 publishing in Hungary; Hungary's rich tradition in literary political literature, his writing about art, literature and movies. Ms Sumegi recalls that she had invited Berkes to come to Australia while on a trip to Budapest in the early 1990s. Berkes speaks about being sent to Australia to find books for his Hungarian company; leaving Hungary in 1992, looking for an audience in Australia that appreciated good Hungarian literature. They speak about how they had been approached by the Australia Council as part of initative to do publishing for communities in their own languages; talk about the complexities of publishing and marketing non main stream literature; their view of themselves in the context of Australian publishing; the process of publishing; comparable publishers; future Asian focus; their successful poetry publishing.

Berkes and Sumegi are the co-founders of Brandl and Schlesinger, an independent Australian publisher set up in 1994. Core areas are poetry, and work from Australia's post-War migrant communities of European and Asian background, including Greek and Vietnamese. Some of their books are produced bilingually. Mr Berkes was a journalist and magazine editor in Budapest, then, after the fall of the Communist regime in 1989, editor-in-chief of Hungary's first private publisher. Ms Sumegi's family left the country when she was a young child.
