The Ireland papers are composed primarily of scripts of plays, documentary features, and biographies of composers and authors intended for radio broadcasting. They include instructions, and technical details (recording, sound effects etc) required for reproduction on air. Photocopies of newspaper clippings from Ireland's personal scrapbook, typescripts of his plays "Wings over Westralia" and "Arctic Adventure", and some correspondence with from the B.B.C. and other overseas broadcasting commissions are also included.

Gordon Ireland was born in New Zealand, and worked for many years with the Australian Broadcasting Commission as a script writer and producer. He retired in 1949. Ireland was also a playwright of some note, his best known play being Wings over Westralia.
