Summary

Broadside about transportation to Van Diemen's Land. Concerns the fate of seven prisoners in Newcastle Gaol awaiting transportation to Van Diemen's Land for their crimes. Mentioned by name in the ballad are: Robert Barnes, George Carr, Mary Wilson, Andrew Scott, Anthony Young, Ralph Pearson, Margaret Stewart and Murphy, all of whom were convicted and sentenced at the Summer Assizes, 1829. The doleful ballad describes their crimes and sentences and offers a stark warning to other would-be offenders.
