Members & longtime friends of the McLeavy family recall life on the Port Melbourne docks since c.1860s; growing up in poverty in the Port Melbourne, Vic. area during the 1920s; unionism; communism; Jennie Baines, an English suffragette born in 1866, living in the Port Melbourne area in the 1920s; womens' protest in 1928, disrupting the Victorian Parliament to protest against the police who had shot wharfies during the 1928 strike; under-age factory work; unemployment 1928-1940; automation; World War I & II; street life c.1920.
