Felix Werder talks about his early childhood influences; the philosophy of composer, Arnold Shoenberg; his approach to teaching; his relationship with Germany; the German expressionist movement; the importance of philosophy and psychology in composition; his father's compositions; the history of Jewish music; Australian approaches to composition; the relationship between art, literature and composition; conflict with the Australian Broadcasting Commission and the Arts Council; his religious background; his experience of working on the Arts Council; challenges of working in Australia; the prospect of moving back to Germany; working in a studio in Sydney as a caretaker while composing; early success after acceptance of an orchestral work conducted by Eugene Goossens.
