Summary

Handwritten memoirs (144 pages) relating to HMAS Harman 1941-1944, including an account of the last signals received before the sinking of HMAS Sydney on 19 November 1941. Two copies "Ex-Wrans Ditty Box" Women's Royal Australian Naval Service (ex-Wrans association newsletter), April 1981 and October 1981. Letter by Mrs Heather Starr, Editor "Ex-Wrans Ditty Box" to Bob Mason, dated June 1981.

Biography/History

R. W. (Bob) Mason joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1934. He was stationed at HMAS Harman, the Navy's Canberra communication establishment form 1941-1944. During this period Mason was Captain's Writer (Chief Clerk) to the C. O. Lieut. Archibald D. Maclachlan.
